Did You Know?
Are you or your child eligible for a QLD Companion Card?
Companion cards are available for people with disabilities or illnesses who need 'attendant care support.' Attendant care support means significant assistance with mobility, communication, self-care or learning, where the use of aids, equipment or alternative strategies does not enable a person to carry out these tasks independently.
Companion Card holders receive a second ‘companion' ticket at no charge at participating venues and on public transport. The 'companion' ticket is also exempt from booking fees.
Q&A with KTC Occupational Therapist, Martin Sandry
How long have you been an occupational therapist for?
I have been an OT for 3 months now!
What do you love most about being an occupational therapist?
I love the range of goals that can be achieved in collaboration with each child and their families. Additionally, occupational therapy is a very hands-on and diverse profession - which means no two days are the same!
What are you looking forward to most at KTC this year?
I am looking forward to our Easter camp and activities!
What is your favourite thing about KTC?
The team! Each staff member dedicates an immense amount of time and energy to ensure that the children at KTC have an extraordinary experience.
What is your favourite therapy activity that parents can do at home with their kids?
I love to play games during car rides or when I’m waiting for an appointment to start that develop children’s executive functioning skills!
My favourite games are:
- Categories: two or more players take turns to choose a category and list items that are in that category, be quick - you only have 5 seconds to answer!
- I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing: you list an item, the next person must list the same item and add one new one, try and reach ten items!
Martin is also participating in the World's Greatest Shave! He is raising funds for the Leukemia Foundation to support people with leukemia and their families. Funds will also help vital research to help more people living with blood cancers and improving their quality of life.

We welcomed a new Speech Pathologist Chaya Patel to KTC! Chaya has a key focus area in managing individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Have a happy week! - KTC Team.
